Code of Ethics on Repossession
All registered repossessors are advised to adhere to the following code of ethics issued by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affair:
- As far as possible the number of authorised repossessors must be minimised unless circumstances warrant any additional assistance.
- Repossessors should only gain entry into premises with the knowledge and consent of the occupant.
- Repossessors should be well mannered and dress decently. They should ensure the practice of professionalism and dignity in carrying out their work.
- The use of "strong arm tactics" of any kind is strictly prohibited in the performance of their work.
- At the time of repossession, the repossessors should give a standard notice to the hirer informing him of the following:

The address and telephone number of the branch or CAC or HPC and the authorised officers he/she can contact immediately to resolve any problems. |
| b) |
The repossessors must give a reasonable time to the hirer to inspect the vehicle and remove his personal items and belongings. |
- As far as possible repossession should be undertaken in the presence of the hirer or any person authorised to use that car.
- A police report on the repossession should be lodged as soon as practicable and preferably within 24 hours but in exceptional circumstances, not later than 48 hours from the time of repossession.
- Repossessors should at all times act in accordance with the laws and regulations in the performance of their work.
- They should also observe any other Code of Ethics introduced by the Association of Hire Purchase Companies Malaysia , the Association of Finance Companies Malaysia and the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs from time to time.
KOD ETIKA BAGI PENGAMBIL SEMULA MILIK
Kesemua pengambil semula milik yang berdaftar dinasihatkan supaya mematuhi kod etika berikutnya yang di keluarkan oleh Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna.
- Seboleh-bolehnya, jumlah pengambil semula milik yang dibenarkan hendaklah kecil melainkan keadaan memerlukan bantuan tambahan.
- Pengambil semula milik hanya boleh memasuki kawasan tempat tinggal (premise) dengan pengetahuan dan kebenaran penghuni.
- Pengambil semula milik hendaklah bersopan santun dan berpakaian kemas. Mereka harus mengekalkan tahap profesionalisme dan kewibawaan dalam menjalankan tugas mereka.
- Penggunaan taktik ganas (strong arm tactics) dalam apa jua bentuk adalah dilarang semasa menjalankan tugas mereka.
- Semasa mengambil semula milik, pengambil semula milik dimestikan mengemukakan notis kepada penyewa dan memaklumkan perkara-perkara berikut:-

Alamat dan nombor telefon syarikat kewangan dan pegawai yang diberi kuasa untuk dihubungi segera bagi menyelesaikan apa-apa masalah. |
| (b) |
Pengambil semula milik sesebuah kenderaan perlu memberi masa yang berpatutan kepada penyewa untuk memeriksa kenderaan dan mengeluarkan barang-barang kepunyaannya. |
- Seboleh-bolehnya pengambilan semula milik hendaklah dijalankan di hadapan penyewa atau sesiapa yang dibenarkan membawa kenderaan tersebut.
- Laporan polis berkenaan pengambilan semula hendaklah dibuat secepat mungkin dan seelok-eloknya dalam tempoh 24 jam tetapi dalam keadaan luar biasa, tidak melebihi 48 jam dari masa pengambilan semula.
- Pengambil semula milik hendaklah pada bila-bila masa mengambil tindakan mengikut undang-undang dan peraturan yang sedia terpakai.
- Mereka perlu juga mematuhi mana-mana Kod Etika yang diperkenalkan dari masa ke semasa oleh Persatuan Syarikat-Syarikat Sewa Beli Malaysia, Persatuan Syarikat-Syarikat Kewangan Malaysia dan Kementerian Perdagangan Dalam Negeri dan Hal Ehwal Pengguna.
