Beware of fake SMS / scam calls purportedly from one of the telecommunication/ e-commerce operators in Malaysia.

Scammers often posing as an officer and lure victims by offering them with attractive deals as a token of appreciation and support to their companies. Example of attractive deals are as below :

  • Free upgrade of the existing postpaid or prepaid
  • Free phone bill
  • Cash rebate
  • Free points
  • Redemption / Reward programme

Later, the scammers will create fake applications or websites and links for the victims to key in personal information and banking credential. Scammers will inform the victim that this move is to secure the deals.

The fake websites and links contain malwares which will steal the victim’s Online Banking login ID and password.

Here are a few red flags that you should keep an eye on

  • Asking you to reveal information (One Time Password/ PBe Authentication Code/ banking credential)
  • Asking you to authenticate a transaction (click “Approve” via Push Notification).
  • Deals seem too good to be true.
  • Requires you to click on the given link or download and install an unknown application on your smartphone.
  • Payments must be made via the app.

Report to the Bank at 03-2170 8000 or visit our Public Bank website/ mobile app to activate the “Kill Switch” which disables all your PBe User ID, ATM/debit/credit cards, and deposit account from a single access point, if you believe you may have responded to a scam.
